Your Dog's Eyes
Night vision simulation enabled: Dogs see better in low light due to more rod cells. This view enhances contrast and visibility in shadows while muting bright areas.
What this image is showing:
The image you see is transformed to reflect the most widely understood differences between human and canine vision:
- Color Shift: Greens and reds are muted or dulled, while blues and yellows remain visible. Dogs are dichromatic — they see fewer colors than humans, with a different emphasis.
- Blur Effect: A slight blur is added to simulate how dogs see less detail, especially at a distance.
- Contrast Adjustments: Contrast is preserved or emphasized to reflect how dogs detect motion and edges more effectively than fine color detail.
This isn’t a perfect representation, but it helps illustrate the basics of canine vision.
- Dogs have a 240° field of view (vs. 180° for humans).
- Motion and contrast matter more than fine detail.
- Many dogs can see better than us at dusk or dawn.
- Some research suggests dogs may detect ultraviolet light.
This tool simulates canine color vision. Dogs also rely heavily on motion, contrast, scent, and low-light sensitivity — none of which can be shown in static images.
